Today we were told more about the short clip for an opening film which we have to make. It is due in February. I came up with the idea of a crime thiller or investigation. I like this idea as it is achievable to film in a short period of time whereas a period drama may not be achievable. We then decided that we wanted to film afew clips at Thorpe Park as it would be a contrast to the other clips which would be more mysterious. We then found out that Thorpe Park has closed for Winter and does not open until March so we could not film there. We then came up with the idea of filming afew clips in an arcade, the nearest aracde is the Big Apple in Woking. Sam and I have created a first draft letter to the Big Apple as we would need their approval to film in their grounds. We would also need the public who are at the location to sign a small contract saying they do not mind being filmed although we would try avoiding filming them however it is difficult to restirct an area from the public so would need them to sign. This is the letter we drafted..
To whom it may concern,
My name is Sophie Moore and I am a year 12 student at Heathside School in Weybridge. I am currently studying Media Studies AS and for our most recent project we have to film a short film. In my group there are four students and we have come up with the idea of filming part of it in an arcade.
The most suitable location for us to film near us is in the Big Apple Arcade but we would need your permission to film. If this is allowed then on the day we would also have the people in the Big Apple Arcade to sign a small contract agreeing to be seen in the short film. We would try and avoid actually filming the public as much as possible as we would bring our own actors/actress however it is very difficult to restrict an area from the public so we would also need their agreement and for them to sign.
This film is not for public or commercial use and would only be used for an in school project with only senior staff viewing it. The project is due in February so we would need to film in December or January (December preferred as need time for editing the film). If you allowed us to film in the arcade grounds we would be filming there for an afternoon (unless you can only allow a few hours which we would still be grateful for).
We would be grateful if you could get back to us as soon as possible as we may have to arrange to film at another location.
Yours faithfully,
Student, Sophie Moore
